In accordance with Texas House Bill 2038 (Natasha's Law), if a student-athlete is suspected of having a concussion during practice or gameplay, the athlete must be immediately removed from activity and cleared by an MD or DO. The Hutto ISD concussion paperwork has been updated (July 2026) with the guidance of the concussion oversight team, Dr. Kendrick Watkins and Head Athletic Trainer Elizabeth Delgado.

The diagnosing MD/DO will determine if the 5-step return-to-play protocol is required. The athlete must complete their return-to-learn restrictions before being able to move on to the 5-step return-to-play process. The athlete must be symptom-free for 24 hours before beginning. If the athlete experiences symptoms during one of the 5 steps, the athlete must stop immediately, and that step must be repeated after 24 hours. If the athlete continues to have symptoms, they must return to the initial diagnosing MD/DO.
